2 Day Inca Trail Trek

This is the short version of the famous and surprising Inca Trail, for those who have little time available, but who in no way want to miss this unique walk and enjoy beautiful scenery and diversity of plants such as the Orchid and variety of birds. This walk is 11 kilometers. Expore the most incredible original inca path between the Andean mountains and tropical forest;  through the mountains and the Sacred Valley

Quick Itinerary:

  • Day 01: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Aguas Calientes 

  • Day 02: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco


DAY 1: Cusco – km 104 – Aguas Calientes:

Pick up from your hotels at 4:00 a.m. to transfer it for a 2-hour trip, with private transportation to the train station in Ollantaytambo. We will board the Expedition train, travel by train for an hour and 45 minutes to Km 104 (Start of our trek.)  At Km 104 after presenting passports at the control, we started to walk gently to meters from the Vilcanota River. Starting the way we will see the ruins of Chachabamba, an there an incredible stone altar that served to worship the sun and the mountains, even venerated by the local people. After visiting Chachabamba, we will continue the path to the south and begin a gradual climb to the mountain, before entering a cloud forest and with lots of vegetation, then the trail goes to the forest and goes to the west, while we continue uphill in an open meadow. After walking 3 hours, the path descends into an amazing forest. Here we will find a beautiful waterfall, then we will reach the lower part of the ruins of Wiñaywayna. We will appreciate the beauty of this place, complemented by the information of our expert guide. After having lunch in Wiñaywayna, we will continue in the afternoon in the cloud forest, full of bromeliads, orchids, and fern trees. While we walk this last part of the road, we will pass through many impressive features such as stone stairs and tambos (“resting places”). You climb 60 stairs before arriving at Inti Punku (“The Sun Gate”). From this point, you can contemplate and observe this wonderful place. Then descend for 45 minutes until you reach the famous viewpoint, from here you can watch the sunset. We will descend to the entrance of Machu Picchu where we will board the bus to Aguas Calientes. Once there, the thermal baths are a good option (bring your swimsuit and 10 soles – not included) Night at Hotel.

 Day 2: Machu Picchu Tour – Cusco:

This is the best day!!! We will board the first bus to Machupicchu, after a delicious breakfast, the park opens at 6:00 am so we will have the first tickets to entry. We have a guided tour of Machu Picchu, this enigmatic and mysterious city is explored for approximately 2-3 hours explained by your expert guide, you can visit the most impressive places like the Royal Mausoleum, the temple of the 3 windows, the main temple, the Sacred, Square, the famous Intihuatana where the wise Inkas moored the sun on the winter solstice in June, stairways, squares, fountains, etc. (You will usually have then about 5-6 extra hours of free time). After finishing our masterful visit, we can walk down to Aguas Calientes (option to get off with bus $ 12 to pay). Then we will have some free time to explore this picturesque town before boarding our train back to Cusco The train leaves Aguas Calientes in the afternoon to Ollantaytambo, then a 2-hour trip to Cusco with a van, arriving at night.

    What is Machu Picchu?

    Are there llamas in Machu Picchu?

    Yes, there are several adorable llamas in the old city. Actually, there are just over 20 llamas (28-35). They all have names that can be found on labels behind their ears. Sobe prepare and take some funny photos with llamas!!

    When to go to Machu Picchu?

    The time is not really a problem in Machu Picchu the minimum temperatures vary between 8 ºC and the maximum ones around 20 ºC. We recommend that you always carry something raincoat with you, because the geography of Machu Picchu means that rain can fall at any time of the year. However, there are big differences between coming in the rainy season or during the dry season; If you definitely do not want to get wet, you can choose to come between the months of April and October, dry season, but coming in the rainy season also has its advantages, lower prices, fewer people and Machu Picchu in its more intense green. The intermediate months (April and September), offer the best of both seasons.

    Machu Picchu can be visited by people of all ages; However, it is possible that children under 8 are not very clear, where they are or how amazing it can be, that is why they do not pay to enter Machu Picchu; however, you can reward them with a tour of the Butterfly House.
